Touristik & Caravaning was impressive from start to finish
Around 55,000 visitors experienced a wide range of holidays in Leipzig
Over a period of five days everything revolved around tourism, caravaning, outdoor activities and culinary delights at the Leipzig Trade Fair Centre. Around 55,000 visitors experienced the wide range of offers at Touristik & Caravaning (TC). This number of visitors was almost twice as high as in 2021. Whether on wheels, by air, by ship or on foot, TC offered a large selection for all holiday forms, for every taste and for all budgets. Over 360 exhibitors presented their products and answered questions from the visitors.
Face-to-face encounters are essential
"The Germans' desire to travel was also reawakened immediately with the removal of the travel restrictions in other countries! Touristik & Caravaning proved this and clearly showed the importance of such a trade fair. There is nothing like direct contact with exhibitors, personal discussions and the opportunity to compare recreational vehicles and travel offers on the spot," said Roland Bleinroth, President of Messe Stuttgart. "Touristik & Caravaning enables travel enthusiasts to experience a wide range of holidays at close quarters irrespective of what holiday form they are interested in. In times like these, face-to-face encounters with people from other cultural areas is more important than ever." Martin Buhl-Wagner, Chief Executive Officer of Leipzig Messe, was also impressed: "The fantastic atmosphere at Touristik & Caravaning spoke for itself. Holidays are simply a subject which motivates and brings people together. We are delighted to have played host again to Touristik & Caravaning this year."
The offers in the two caravaning Halls 3 and 5, as well as Hall 4 with the topics of tourism, cycling and outdoor activities also aroused national interest: 34 per cent of visitors travelled a distance of more than 100 kilometres. The visitors were very satisfied and awarded the trade fair an overall mark of 1.8. 95 per cent of visitors were also intending to come back to Touristik & Caravaning next year while 97 per cent said they would recommend the event to friends and acquaintances.
55 Tourism Heroes honoured at TC
One special highlight of the trade fair was the presentation of the awards to the Saxony Tourism Heroes in 2022. The fact that this event was held during TC clearly indicated the importance of the trade fair for tourism in Saxony. Together with the Saxony Tourism Association, the Saxony State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Culture and Tourism, the Saxony branch of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA), the Saxony Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Saxony Youth Employment Agency and Messe Stuttgart, 55 Tourism Heroes were honoured. "The première of the Saxony Tourism Heroes was a total success. The 55 prize winners exemplify the passion and creativity of the large number of hosts in our state, but also far beyond in the spirit of hospitality," said Manfred Böhme, Director of the Saxony Tourism Association. "Touristik & Caravaning provides a strong impetus for the holiday region of Leipzig and Saxony."
Great interest in the caravaning section
Motorhomes, box vans and caravans are more popular than ever before – also at Touristik & Caravaning. Sachsen Caravan has already exhibited several times at the trade fair as a regional supplier. "We are pleased that we always see very purposeful visitors here and that the interest in enjoying camping as a leisure hobby is undiminished. We really meet every target group at TC. The all-round package is simply perfect," said André Günther, who is responsible for material planning and insurance at Sachsen Caravan.
Whether roof tents, awnings, folding caravans or family tents, all these products were widely represented at Touristik & Caravaning. Dorema Vorzelte has exhibited several times at the trade fair and was also pleased with the outcome in 2022: "TC was successful as always. The sales staff on our stand were always holding discussions. That's a marvellous situation. We were also naturally very satisfied with our sales figures," said CEO Michael Haus.
People wanting to obtain information about how to upgrade vans themselves were also in the right place in Leipzig. Bloggers met in the Vans & Friends Lounge in order to talk about upgrading their recreational vehicles and present their everyday life in a van. The guests included Leonie Müller who lives and works as a digital nomad in her converted camper.
All camping grounds in one place
Visitors who were looking for camping grounds or pitches found different providers in one place in the Glass Hall. "We were pleased to see huge numbers of visitors again and full exhibition halls. We noticed that the situation is improving again after the corona pandemic," said Wolfgang Kuster from Top Camping Austria.
Travel around the world at Touristik & Caravaning
Exciting talks, interesting exhibition stands and elaborately designed experience worlds transported the visitors around the world in Hall 4. Representatives of travel organisers, hotels, individual travel organisers, cruise lines and airlines focused on both international and regional holiday trends at the trade fair. The Vogtland region was presented by Peter Wollmann from the local tourism association. He drew some positive conclusions: "We attracted crowds of customers. The visitors obtained detailed information about family holidays, hiking and camping." Freddy Hipp from Wigwam Naturreisen was also full of praise: "We were very satisfied with the large number of visitors and will gladly come back again next year."
Anyone attracted to far-off places was also able in Hall 4 to obtain information about international destinations, for example Morocco. Ahmed Zouhir from the Moroccan National Tourist Office has been presenting his country at Touristik & Caravaning for many years. "The trade fair proved to be a success for our company. A large number of customers wanted information about Morocco as a holiday destination. There were also specific inquiries and offers." Explore the world by ship: that sounded tempting for a large number of visitors to the stand of Uhlmann Reisen. "once again, we were very impressed how many interesting discussions we held during the trade fair. Numerous bookings were made. It is great to see that people are now going on holiday again," said Niko Hinkelthein.
Insight into the lives of Mongolians
Special attention was paid this year to Mongolia. The last genuine nomads' land was the partner country of Touristik & Caravaning and was presented in Hall 4 where a traditional hand-made yurt provided an insight into the lives of Mongolians. Elbegtsenguun Sukhee from Mongolia Adventure Outfitters: "There has always been a good relationship between Germany and Mongolia. It was therefore a honour for us to participate in TC as the partner country. We were absolutely delighted to introduce our culture to the trade fair visitors and arouse interest in our country."
Testing and obtaining information in the outdoor area
Get on your bike and enjoy nature was another motto in Hall 4. A large number of manufacturers presented innovations from the cycling and outdoor area, and provided information on the related equipment. In particular, the bike track proved popular with visitors. They were able to try out different bikes there and test their skills on courses. Stefan Nolte, Managing Director of Fahrradgigant was a newcomer to TC: "We exhibited at the trade fair for the first time, but were very impressed by the event, the organisation and the guests. The customers were especially interested in innovations in the areas of e-bikes, cargo bikes, transport bikes and folding bikes." Thursday evening was also a highlight in the calendar for outdoor fans. The European Outdoor Film Tour (EOFT) stopped off at Touristik & Caravaning and screened the stories of those people who follow their passion unconditionally.
Anyone wanting to experience some culinary delights was in the right place at the Culinary Journey in the Glass Hall. All kinds of German and international treats were offered there, for example Italian salami, farmhouse bread from Saxony, spices from all over the world and Indian curries.
Programme for trade visitors
Touristik & Caravaning was not only an ideal place for holiday enthusiasts, it also featured a varied programme for trade visitors. The events during the trade fair included, for example, the 12th Saxony Market Research Day and the Pitch Summit in which municipalities discussed optimum planning and implementation of pitches for motorhomes and caravans.
"After such a successful event, we are already looking forward with eager anticipation to the travel fair in Leipzig next year," said Roland Bleinroth. The positive response by the visitors in Leipzig allows the event team to look forward full of expectation to Stuttgart and Hamburg: CMT will be held in Stuttgart from 14 to 22 January 2023 and Reisen & Caravaning in Hamburg from 8 to 12 February 2023.
The next Touristik & Caravaning will take place at Messe Leipzig from 22 to 26 November 2023.
