Final report: Reise + Camping 2020 makes you want to go on your next vacation
Over 60,000 visitors came to Messe Essen
The Germans are happy to travel, as shown by current industry figures and the response to North Rhine-Westphalia's largest holiday fair, Reise + Camping at Messe Essen. From February 26th to March 1st, more than 60,000 visitors got tips and suggestions for their next trip. Due to the corona virus, which appeared in NRW for the first time at the same time, the number of visitors was significantly below that of the previous year. “Under the difficult general conditions, it was a successful trade fair. The industry is doing well, and Reise + Camping is of course also benefiting from this. At the same time, as soon as the first corona cases became known in North Rhine-Westphalia, we felt the effects on ticket sales," says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen.
Around 1,000 exhibitors and destinations from over 20 nations informed the holiday-loving public at Reise + Camping and Fahrrad Essen, which started a day later. The offer of the exhibitors clearly met the demand: 82 percent of the visitors bought or ordered at the holiday fair or did not rule out doing so. One of the highlights was a cruise show cabin from the Holland America Line shipping company, which was exhibiting a cabin for the first time at a trade fair in Germany. “In the 4.5 by 6 meter Signature Suite, cruise newcomers in particular were able to get their first impressions of life on board. In addition, they were able to get inspiration from the numerous presentations on stage,” says cruise expert Christian Baumann.
Motorhomes, caravans, roof tents and more in four halls
The motorhome industry is booming. According to the German Camping Club, the leisure vehicle industry achieved a new record turnover of 11.7 billion euros in 2019. In Halls 1, 2, 3 and 6, Reise + Camping presented everything to do with the trendy topic of camping. Whether tent, caravan, motor home, mobile home, folding caravan or practical equipment such as awnings, furniture or solar showers - there was something suitable for every taste and every wallet. Around 41 percent of the visitors were particularly interested in vehicles, closely followed by camping accessories and international camping tourism. If you wanted something a little more luxurious, you got your money's worth in the "Glamping" area. There, unusual lodges, pods and even a shepherd's wagon awaited the visitors.
Completely new this year was the special show "Vehicle Wrapping" in Hall 7. Under the motto "Turn OLD into NEW - turn NEW into INDIVIDUAL", motorhomes and caravans were wrapped in new foils on a large promotional area every 20 minutes.
