The industry players in the optics sector are getting ready for the fall trade fair season in 2022. The Optatec international trade fair for optical technologies, components and systems will open its doors at its usual venue in Frankfurt from the 18th through the 20th of October. 45% of all currently registered exhibitors come from outside of Germany. Representatives from universities will be on hand once again this year and will organise the “Education & Research” technology park.
Many facets of contemporary life would be inconceivable without optical technologies and image processing. Weather and climate data, quality inspection processes, driver assistance systems, deposit bottle return, waste separation, microelectronics, robot control, bioengineering and laboratory technology – opto-technologies and image processing systems are essential for all these industrial and non-industrial fields of activity. Photonics, biophotonics, photovoltaics and image processing are booming issues both internationally and in Germany, where optical technologies serve a broad industrial base. Drivers include generally increasing automation and digitalisation along with autonomous systems, as well as ever stricter quality requirements in production. Above all the growing fields of analytics, bioengineering, laboratory technology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare require up-to-date optotechnology systems. After all, the practical implementation of factors such as artificial intelligence, autonomous mobility, new forms of learning, personalisation and smart cities is based on new technologies based on optotechnology and image processing.
Current and Future High-Tech Topics
As an internationally acclaimed and traditionally popular industry get-together, Optatec covers above all trending issues. There’s no other trade fair where the most important players from the optics industry come together at a single location. Expert visitors are able to gain a comprehensive impression of worldwide offerings for products, stand-alone and system solutions, as well as applications including optical components, optomechanics, optoelectronics, fibre-optics, fibre-optic cables, laser components and manufacturing systems. Optatec takes place once every two years as a trade fair highlight and had to be postponed this year to October from its usual timeslot in mid-May. For many companies, Optatec is an essential industry meet in Germany and Europe, where it’s also deemed the leading trade fair in its field. Registered exhibitors from outside of Germany already account for 45% of this year’s total – despite numerous travel restrictions, especially where Asia is concerned.
Up-to-Date Knowledge Transfer: From Universities to Actual Practice
As is the case with all events organised by Schall trade fair promoters, Optatec’s concept adheres to the principle of practical orientation and focuses on user benefits. And thus the organiser places special emphasis on a concrete transfer of knowledge from research to everyday business operations. The “Education & Research” technology park presented by the Darmstadt and RheinMain Universities of Applied Sciences and the Technical University of Central Hesse will thus be featured once again this year. The growing engineering disciplines of optotechnology and image processing, which investigate photonics in depth and shape the way people will live and work with light in the future, provide users and expert visitors with highly interesting new ideas for practical applications. And thus as usual at Optatec, lots of young trade fair visitors will also be in attendance.
Optatec will be held for the first time this year in hall 8 which is flooded with daylight – with roughly 30,000 square metres of exhibition floor space, it’s the largest hall on ground level at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre, and it’s very easy to access directly via suburban railway. Visitors and interested parties should definitely save the dates, i.e. 18 to 20 October 2022 in Frankfurt.
