Mexico City, September 5, 2024 - Intersolar Mexico: The International Exhibition and Conference for the Solar Industry has successfully concluded, marking another milestone in the region's renewable energy landscape. Held at the Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City from September 3-5, 2024, the event attracted a solid number of attendees, exhibitors, and industry stakeholders from across the globe.
This year around 10,000 visitors and 12,000 industry professionals (total attendance) filled the exhibition halls of Centro Citibanamex. Attendees and exhibitors of this fifth edition were optimistic, as Mexico’s solar industry expects market growth with president elect Sheinbaum's anticipated National Energy Plan. With more than 400 exhibitors from 22 countries, Intersolar Mexico, The GREEN Expo and Aquatech Mexico 2024 showcased the latest innovations, technologies, and solutions driving the solar energy, cleantech and water revolution in the region. Highlights of Intersolar Mexico included innovative product launches, high-level conference sessions, technical workshops, a tailor-made exhibition program and unique networking opportunities.
Innovation and technology stood out on the exhibition floor, positioning Intersolar Mexico as a cutting-edge business platform where leading national and international companies in the sector present solutions for the Mexican and regional markets. The event attracted professionals and enthusiasts interested in exploring how solar energy is generated, stored and used. Intersolar Mexico hosted a new Special Exhibition - ees (electrical energy storage) to showcase the latest technologies throughout the energy storage value chain. The topic was also deeply discussed in the conference program. In continuing to support the Mexican market with valuable content, Intersolar Mexico debuted a white paper titled White Paper „Energy Storage in Mexico: Fertile Ground for Technological Development and Investment“ .
“This is our second participation in Intersolar Mexico. We consider South and Central America to be our target markets, so this is an excellent opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with companies in Mexico. (…) Last year, there was little awareness of the importance of certification, but this year we have noticed a significant change in the number of visitors interested in our company. I believe the exhibition has done an excellent job in attracting high-quality visitors to this edition. We are very satisfied with our participation and have high expectations for next year,” expressed Ismet Kandemir, General Manager, Elit Certification.
“For us, it is important to exhibit at Intersolar Mexico because the most important companies in the industry converge here. It gives you significant visibility as a brand, since it is a global event. We had great success in Germany, and we believe it is essential to have a presence in the Americas,” commented María Guadalupe Compeán, Marketing and Communication, IMEnergy.
"Through Intersolar Mexico, we seek to position ourselves in the Mexican market because it is highly distribution-oriented, so we are interested in connecting with suppliers, installers, and developers. Additionally, it is a space for networking with major brands," stated Ignacio Ortubia, Technical Manager for Latin America at Astroenergy.
The content program connected specialists and professionals from the solar industry and related sectors at the Conference, Intersolar Stage, technical workshops and networking sessions. During Intersolar Mexico Conference, 18 sessions on photovoltaics, solar thermal energy and electric energy storage were held over the course of two days, featuring the participation of 39 speakers from Mexico, Germany, United States of America, Chile, Panama, France, Ecuador and Italy. Some of the key sessions were: Towards 2030: What the Solar Industry in Mexico Could Achieve in a Six-Year Term; Business Strategies for SMEs in the Solar Industry; The Media, Marketing, and Communication the Solar Industry Needs; Large-Scale Solar Projects in Northwestern Mexico; Large-Scale Energy Storage, Beyond Lithium; Public Policies Supporting Solar Energy in Mexico.
Celeste Morales, Secretary of Technological Management and Liaison of IER-UNAM, emphasized the importance of academic collaboration with the energy sector to address the needs of both small and medium-sized companies, as well as multinational corporations. "We need to strengthen the connection between new ventures and established companies in the field, as they could complement existing efforts and propose new solutions," explained Morales.
"In terms of public policy in Mexico, addressing SMEs is crucial, and financing this market niche plays an important role in promoting renewables," concluded Casiopea Ramírez, Specialized Consultant of Voz Experta.
Dr. Rafael Cabanillas, Head of the Energy Directorate at the Ministry of Economy of the State Government of Sonora, highlighted the progress of the Sonora Plan. Construction has begun on a 1GW photovoltaic solar plant in Puerto Peñasco, considered one of the largest in Latin America, covering an area of 2,000 hectares with an annual production of 2,300 GWh. "The installed solar generation capacity in Mexico is 7,544 MW, Sonora accounts for 1,357 MW, representing 18%. This is why the state is a leader in the energy sector," explained Rafael Cabanillas.
Training in the solar industry is crucial to ensuring the development and effective adoption of new technologies. In this regard, the Institute of Technological Certification (ICETEC) held two technical workshops about improving the quality of PV installations.
The next edition of Intersolar Mexico Exhibition and Conference will take place on September 2-4, 2025 in Mexico City.
